Mask Madness: All About Masking

Mask Madness: All About Masking

At SKINFOOD, the month of March means MASK MADNESS! We’re crazy for all things mask, and to prep you like a double cleanse and tone, we’re digging through all the different kinds of masks to help you unearth the ones that will make your skin sing. Welcome to the Ultimate Mask Showdown!

Unmasking Mask Types

Masks are specially formulated to deliver high concentrations of active ingredients to your skin. Think of them as turbo-charged boosts to your regular skincare routine, targeting different skin concerns as they arise.

Exfoliating

Depending on your skin type, exfoliating your face regularly removes dead skin cells and blackheads. That just means you’re clearing off the dead stuff so that your skincare products can really get into your pores, plus exfoliating has the bonus of making your skin smooth, soft, and bright. Don’t overdo it, as excess exfoliation can irritate skin and strip it of too much of its natural oil, leading to oversensitivity, oil imbalance, or dryness.

If you’re just dipping your toes in for the first time, try our perennial fan favorite, Black Sugar Mask Wash Off - also available in Strawberry and Honey. If you’re looking for something for sensitive skin, try our Rice Mask Wash Off for milder exfoliation and gentler application.

*Great for most skin types. Maximize the exfoliating effects by applying your favorite emulsion or moisturizer afterwards to seal and hydrate skin.

Clay

When sebum and other contaminants collect in pores, that’s what causes blackheads to form. Clay masks focus on intense purifying and pore control, but with a gentle touch. Our egg-celent Egg White Pore Mask purifies, tightens, and minimizes pores while controlling sebum production.

TIP: Clay masks can feel like they’re leaving residue behind - don’t rub it off, that might irritate your skin. Lay a warm, damp cloth on your face and it’ll loosen up the mask so you can wipe it right off.

*Great for oily skin types to reduce pore appearance and control sebum production.

Wash Off

Whether you enjoy saunas or smoothies, wash off masks are a spa-cation in ten minutes. Our Freshmade wash off masks are a blast of refreshing cool to sunstressed skin. Watermelon, Lemon, and Cranberry Freshmade Masks can be refrigerated to up the cooling factor even higher.

*Great for combination or stressed skin to provide spot treatment and extra hydration.

Leave On/Sleeping

There’s even a mask that’ll work hard for you while you have your well-deserved beauty rest. A leave on mask will have powerful nourishing and moisturizing properties that take the extra time to soak deep into skin, so it’s worth splurging on the good stuff. Try our Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Sleeping Mask for an overnight glow up fit for a queen.

*Great for dry skin or to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines.

Sheet Masks

By now, your head might be spinning from all the different kinds of masks there are. It can be a big commitment to start one product, only to find it doesn’t quite work for you. Sheet masks come in a garden variety of price points and ingredients, making them an easy, entry level way to get masking. Try refrigerating our Sous Vide line before applying to enhance their cooling effects, making sure you squeeze every drop of essence out of the pack! If it’s too much for your face, you can apply any remaining essence on your neck and arms.

*Great for all skin types; a low commitment way to try a new ingredient or product line, or to target a specific skin concern.

You’re now a lean, mean masking machine! Just remember, because of their potency, not all masks are advised for everyday use. Frequency of use will depend on your skin type and your skin concerns. Mix and match your favorites for an all-star skincare lineup that’ll make your skin the reigning champion!
